1.5.227 Jul 2026
  • Removed the "TubePlus can't see YouTube pages yet" message that 1.5.1 showed to everyone. It was meant to appear only for the rare user who had not granted access to youtube.com, but a styling mistake made it visible in every popup regardless, and its "Grant access" button could not dismiss it. Nothing was actually wrong: if you were on 1.5.1, TubePlus was cleaning your URLs the whole time. Sorry for the scare.
  • TubePlus no longer touches YouTube Music. Since 1.5.0 it had been stripping the queue from music.youtube.com, so opening an album or a station played one song and stopped. Stations were stripped even with the "Playlists" toggle off. YouTube Music is now left alone entirely.
  • Fixed downloaded videos not playing. Cleaning a URL costs a page load, and a page load needs the network, so cleaning a video opened from Downloads replaced a video that plays offline with a page that cannot load. TubePlus now leaves those URLs alone.
  • Fixed playlist links that carry no video, such as youtube.com/watch?list=…. On Chrome these were being stripped down to a blank watch page, so the link simply broke. They are now left alone. This affected 1.5.0 and 1.5.1 too.
  • Added a safeguard against repeated reloads: if cleaning a page would immediately be undone, TubePlus now stops instead of reloading over and over.
  • Firefox again supports version 109 and newer. 1.5.1 raised this to 128, which left users on older releases, including the extended support release, stranded on an older version.
  • Permissions are unchanged from 1.5.0, so the update installs silently and nothing needs to be granted or re-enabled.

  • Fixed in-app navigation cleaning on the mobile YouTube site (m.youtube.com): tapping a video that carries Mix or playlist context now cleans the URL again. The mobile app never fires the desktop navigation event that 1.5.0 relied on, so cleaning only worked when a link was opened in a new tab. Navigation is now detected through several independent signals (desktop and mobile YouTube events, the Navigation API, and a URL watcher fallback).
  • Fixed Firefox, where 1.5.0 cleaned nothing at all: a Firefox-specific scoping difference in content scripts (globalThis is not window there) crashed the cleaner before it could run.
  • Added a "Grant access" card to the popup for users without site access to youtube.com. This misfired for everyone and is removed in 1.5.2.

  • Rebuilt the cleaning engine on declarativeNetRequest: playlist/mix context is now stripped from the request before YouTube loads, so the page never enters a Mix and there is no reload or flash (Chrome). Replaces the previous approach that only edited the address bar after the Mix had already loaded.
  • Added a content-script fallback for in-app navigations (clicking a Mix while already on YouTube) and for browsers without declarativeNetRequest; it cleans via location.replace, so the Back button always returns to the previous page rather than the playlist.
  • Reworked the popup into a master switch plus independent "Mixes & radio" and "Playlists" toggles, so cleaning can be limited to either type or turned off entirely.
  • Useful watch parameters (such as the t timestamp) are preserved while playlist context is removed.
  • Permissions: added storage and declarativeNetRequestWithHostAccess (neither shows an install warning) and removed the now-unused tabs permission (the background watcher that relied on it was replaced by the declarativeNetRequest engine), so existing users update without having to re-enable the extension.
